Whilst any shipping firm would know that there are many different kinds of packaging you can use for your business, not everyone is aware of this fact. Of course, corrugated box packaging or cardboard packaging is the most popular kind of packaging you can use for the transport and shipping of goods, but you can use other materials to augment this and to support your packaging requirements. Here’s a list of the different kinds of packaging you can use for your business.

Corrugated packaging

Corrugated packaging often comes in box form, and what makes it special are the layers of flat paper alternating with layers of fluted paper which contribute to the packaging’s sturdiness and durability. Corrugated packaging is used for a variety of purposes and products, and it can provide more than enough protection during transport. It is also versatile because one box can be stacked on top of another, and it is not easily compressed or damaged.

Shrink wrapping

Shrink wrapping can be used either as secondary packaging or primary packaging. For instance, you can put your actual product in shrink wrapping, such as the shrink wrapping found on notebook paper or CDs. A whole pallet of packaged goods can also be shrink-wrapped so the packages can adhere to each other, allowing them to be moved more easily. Shrink wrapping does not just keep your packages in one place, though – it also serves as protection from abrasion and puncturing, and it reduces the impact in case a product is dropped. Shrink wrapping is not as solid or durable as corrugated packaging, so some use it as additional protection aside from corrugated packaging.

Preservation packaging

Preservation packaging can be a combination of vacuum packaging and shrink wrapping, but it also includes other kinds of packaging like aluminium tins and jars, as well as milk containers or jugs and egg cartons. Preservation packaging’s purpose is to keep products protected, fresh, and safe, and nowadays, there are certain packaging market trends which make packaging like this more useful and efficient. Another kind of preservation packaging is bubble wrap, which can cushion and protect various products as well as offer protection from impact.

Vacuum packaging

When it comes to items which need sealing, vacuum packaging offers a good alternative. It is often used with food that is perishable, for dehydrated food items, and for food products often used for camping. Vacuum packaging is designed to remove the oxygen from the food, and this, in turn, keeps mould, yeast, and bacteria from growing. If you regularly ship food that is perishable, vacuum packaging can be an ideal packaging solution, especially when combined with corrugated box packaging. Aside from being ideal for food, vacuum packaging is also suitable for the shipping and storage of medical items.
